How can we learn Italian expressions day by day?

Learning Italian expressions day after day is an experience that is more like immersion than memorization; it's as if you are slowly plunging your way of looking at and feeling the world in a new one. The important thing is to be consistent, and to fit language in during those little pockets of time you have in your day. Such as immersing yourself in Italian in a natural way by listening to music as you get ready in the morning, watching brief clips on TikTok or Instagram from natives, or playing an Italian series while you cook or unwind. These tiny exposures, while seemingly trivial, render the expressions effortlessly familiar even if they just write it on a sticky note and keep it somewhere visible.

Another very good tip or option is to select a phrase of the day. You can jot it down on your phone, a sticky note or just say it to yourself a few times throughout the day. You can start adding expressions such as “Dai!” (Let's go!), “Che bello!” (How beautiful!), or “Magari” (I hope) to your everyday vocabulary just by using them when you're out and about. Also, when you practice with audio, you are also learning to imitate the musical rhythm of Italian, so your sentences will just “sound more natural” as you go.

It never hurts to keep a small notebook or digital note where you record any new phrases you come across, along with their meaning and an example of your own. Repeated reading of this list weekly will reaffirm what you have acquired. And if you have somebody to practice with, even if it’s just to exchange brief messages, you can try to use these phrases in your conversations. You don’t have to be afraid of making mistakes; in fact, making them is necessary to the process.

And above all: the best thing is to have the right attitude: curiosity, patience, and a willingness to have fun. There is no need to rush through learning Italian expressions; it is a journey filled with surprises, laughter, new sounds and little successes which will help you getting a bit closer to mastering this beautiful language and fostering a feeling of belonging to its culture on every single day.

MOTIVATIONAL PHRASE:  “Learning a language is embracing a new way of experiencing the world, one expression at a time.” ✨
